Fellowships and Other Research Support

Several Yale libraries and museums offer fellowships, internships, travel grants, or other forms of support for visiting scholars, as well as for Yale graduate students and Yale undergraduates, to encourage research use of Yale’s rich and diverse collections, and to advance development of related professional skills.  

Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library

Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library offers a variety of Research Fellowships to outside scholars as well as summer grant opportunities for Yale graduate students pursuing dissertation, pre-dissertation or other forms of advanced research in the Beinecke collections.

The Lewis Walpole Library (Farmington, CT)

Lewis Walpole Library supports a residential fellowship program for outside scholars for terms of from 2 weeks to two months.  It also provides 1 to 2 month summer research grants to graduate students pursuing dissertation research in the Library’s collections.  The Ryskamp Travel Grant supports undergraduate students whose Senior Thesis projects will benefit from on-site use of the Library’s collections, in Farmington.

Both undergraduate and graduate grants provide accommodations at no cost in the Timothy Root House, a Fellows quarters on the Lewis Walpole campus.

The Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art offers a variety of Fellowships and Grants  which support  scholarship, academic research and the dissemination of knowledge in the field of British art and architectural history.

The Yale Center for British Art

The Yale Center for British Art  (YCBA) offers opportunities for scholars at all levels to study its collections, and participate in its scholarly programs, including  short-term residential Visiting Scholar Awards at predoctoral and postdoctoral levels, travel grants, research positions. Other training opportunities include YCBA’s annual Graduate Student Symposium, and a biennial Graduate Student Summer Seminar.
